The Best Vegan Restaurants in Boston
I’ve been vegan since fall of 2017. Being plant-based is notoriously challenging. As a movement obsessed health nut, I’ve searched Boston for the best plant-based options. In a city like Boston that isn’t 100% on board with the plant-based thang, it’s important to try out restaurants have a few plant-based options. I find these restaurants to be the most enjoyable, because my omnivorous friends and I can both equally enjoy a meal! Here’s my list of my favorite vegan friendly restaurants and places to eat or drink in Boston.
Health Conscious
You’ll notice that many of these restaurants also serve juices/smoothies which can double up as a great snack! I’ve found it challenging to find great health conscious restaurants that aren’t “day time” juice bar style. I frequent these spots the most often. I’ll note down some of my favorite dishes at each restaurant, if there’s a standout.
Life Alive Organic Cafe (Cambridge, Brookline, Back Bay) - The Rainbow Harvest, The Emperor, The Green Goddess
Mother Juice (Gov Center, Back Bay, Kendall Sq) - The Taco Bowl, The Sushi Bowl
Pressed Juicery (Cambridge, Back Bay)
Nourish Your Soul (Beacon Hill)
Juice Press (Back Bay, Financial District)
Jugos (Back Bay, South End) - The Ashton Smoothie
Dig Inn (Back Bay, Financial District)
Sweetgreen (Everywhere!) - I always do a custom salad
Nu Cafe (Somerville)
Whole Heart Provisions (Cambridge, Allston)
Red Lentil (Watertown) - This is a great sit down restaurant, not fast casual. We love to do special tasting menus. A great date night spot.
Indulgent
Saus (Somerville, Downtown) - They serve Beyond Burger and Dogs! Think cheesy, fatty and fried!
Veggie Galaxy (Cambridge) - Like your favorite childhood diner, veganized.
Taco Party (Somerville)- My personal favorite. Get a taco party - one of every taco! The nachos are also a must.
Omnivore Friendly
Oleana (Cambridge) - One of our favorite anniversary spots. Be prepared to shell out some $$ but they are very accommodating! They do a vegan dish that is just a conglomerate of veggies etc. It’s bomb! The service is 100. Mediterranean inspired cuisine.
Alden and Harlow (Cambridge) - Think New American tapas style. There’s a ton of vegan options, veg options and more. Overall, a great place to get drinks with a friend or to spend time with a special someone.
Ranghzen (Cambridge) - This Tibetian restaurant is one of our regulars. We go at least 2x a month. I get the veggie and tofu flat noodle soup every time. Try the Momos too! Nepalese, Tibetian, and Indian cuisine are all very veg friendly.
All Star Pizza (Beacon Hill, Cambridge) - They have veg and custom pizza options. Dairy free cheese is also available. This is great for someone who just wants a good slice of pizza. They have some other cool non veg combos for your friends.
The Friendly Toast (Back Bay, Cambridge) - Your favorite diner with a quirky spin. Lots of veg options - tofu scrambles, breakfast burritos and more. I get the vegan chili with corn chips.
